The reduction of SOx emissions currently is a pressing topic for the maritime industry. Effective from 1 January 2020, the global sulfur cap will be reduced from 3.50% to 0.50% under the revised MARPOL Annex VI regulation.
One important strategy for ship owners to comply with this requirement is the installation of exhaust gas scrubbers. This enables them to keep using heavy fuel oil, the most economical kind of fuel which is high in sulfur.
In order to ensure legal compliance the performance and uptime of exhaust gas scrubbers needs to be continuously monitored by online instrumentation measuring turbidity, pH, conductivity and oil in water.
AppliTek and Hach® recently signed a contract with one of the leading maritime scrubber manufacturers to provide online instrumentation and enclosures. The unique solution gained class type approval by the certifying authorities successfuelly and will now be the standard equipment with every new scrubber installation.
